A very warm welcome to the first Energy matters newsletter of 2008. It’s great to be back.
The New Year is a time to reflect on the changes we would like to, or need to make but what is the best way to go about it? If, like me, you’ve been experiencing the discomfort and uncertainty of change, rather like the painful process of a snake shedding it’s skin, in order to move and grow, you may recognise that fear of failure and fear of success are two aspects of the fear of change, and each can hold us in a place of impasse. With support, guidance and a few choice tools I’m rediscovering that change can be welcomed as an opportunity for growth, forward movement and personal fulfilment – I say rediscovering because, I don’t know about you but I often forget what I know?
Here at Inner Solutions we are preparing a programme of training days and “Experiences” which will offer a variety of opportunities to discover and explore first hand ways of enhancing your potential in all areas of your life. We’ve been developing ideas to enable anyone who wishes to learn to tap into their inner resources, push past limitations and forge ahead. Introducing and utilising the enormous benefits of Energy Psychology and Meridian Therapies with a pleasurable, leisurely approach our “Experiences” are designed to empower and enable, to find a place of self worth and trust in ourselves, the Universe, and the process of life where change becomes something to be embraced with confidence.
Restricting ourselves and hiding our own radiance is of benefit to no one. In the words of Marianne Williamson: "We ask ourselves - who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
From this perspective the unknown can become a challenging, exciting adventure.

It is stated in ancient traditions that change creates confusion, and from confusion comes enlightenment. And that’s how circumstances have been feeling recently regarding our “YOU” Experience that is taking place at Sharrow Bay in March. Ways to keep your Resolution
Everyone has made and broken past resolutions but it doesn’t mean you won’t succeed this time. It is important to have a positive outlook and those who succeed have the mindset that their goals are possible and within reach. Above all aim for things that are important to you, not what you think you ought to do or what others expect of you. Are you excited by it? Is it in line with your life purpose and what you want from life?
1. Make a Commitment – Promise yourself that it is non negotiable, that you are absolutely going to do it. Expect it to change. Life is often unpredictable and flexibility is required to accomplish more than the simplest goal but intend that your commitment is absolute. Whether you call it a promise, a pledge, a vow, whatever…, intending it to be a certainty is the best way to halt the falter when your initial enthusiasm waves.
2. Learn from the Past – If you have attempted in the past and not succeeded, what happened? What will be different this time? What did you say to yourself when you gave up on your commitment? – No time, didn’t really want to, It’s too hard, Don’t know where to start? Make a list of your usual excuses and typical rationalisations and develop strategies to deal with them in advance.
If you are familiar with EFT you can work on your objections and excuses before you begin.
3. Be Realistic and Specific – have achievable goals. Winning the lottery is out of your grasp. If you intend to be less lazy opt for “I want to exercise regularly “, or “I’ll watch less TV”. And don’t make too many resolutions – trying to eat better, exercise more, stop smoking and reduce stress is too much to tackle in one go. Pick a realistic, attainable goal with a reasonable time frame.
4. Create a Plan – A Goal without a plan is merely wishful thinking. Making a plan and writing it down gives you a higher chance of success. What will you do first, and what will you be required to complete? We need to know how we are going to put our intentions into action – and it’s imperative that you begin immediately. Make a Plan step by step. Work backwards to where you are now. Make and easy action plan to make your goals a reality.
5. In order to ensure you include your resolution in your daily life the best thing is to schedule it in your diary. Approach each step of your plan as a specific regular appointment as you would book in a client or some commitment to another person. This provides a visual record of your accomplishment.
6. Tell people – let others know about your commitment and initiate ways to increase the involvement of others in your efforts. It’s good to get a friend to get involved too. Having a buddy cab dramatically boost your success rate. Being accountable to someone other than yourself will keep you on track. Get friends to send you a weekly reminder, or focus on memory joggers for yourself with mobile alerts and post it notes in cupboards.
7. Forgive yourself – if you go off track, don’t think you have failed. Review and make adjustments. Be kind to yourself, we forget, we mess up.
8. Congratulate yourself – reward yourself frequently. Find something to look forward to. Whether it is a deserving massage, or a satisfying meal your behaviour needs reinforcement so you can feel good about your effort.
9. Believe and Visualise – see yourself on New Year’s Eve 2009 with your goals achieved. How do you look? How do you feel? Visualise daily and see what differences it makes to your life.
10. Plan specifically for stress management – Unfortunately when things get stressful people often relapse back into their old behaviours. Plan and prepare for such future events. Learn EFT or find a Practitioner to support you.
New Year Resolutions are just the starting point. Good luck!
